“Companies will understand that there is a value in acting in an ethical way”
How can it be profitable for a company to base their decisions on ethical values?
According to Mrs. Dr. Taddeo, Deputy Director of the Digital Ethics Lab and researcher fellow of the Oxford Internet Institute, a companie’s future success will depend on the degree to which it respects not only the consumer’s demands, but also the values of society, such as user privacy. Therefore, in order to “unleash” the potential of new digital technologies for the good, a balance between regulations and freedom for innovation needs to be achieved. With the motivation to provide a concrete guideline for the praxis of ethical decision taking, Mrs. Taddeo developed a model of the “ethical” space, which stresses the strong interdependence between data, algorithms and practice.
